To break or not to break?
I only have 2 more semesters before I finish my degree, but I've been thinking of taking a semester off from college. The reasons are the following:
- I'm a fifth year senior and I received no financial aid or grants for school this year. I still have to talk to the financial aid office at my school about how I can finance my education. Maybe I can work something out.
- There's a scheduling problem between my work and one of the classes I'm required to take. Because I survive solely off my job and would be using it to pay my college tuition, work is my first priority.
- I've been burned out on school for awhile now. I just feel like getting this degree isn't necessarily enriching my life as much as it's just an exercise in "jumping through the hoops", and I hate tedium.
The reasons why I would stay in school are because I'd have to start paying back my college loans, and I just want to get it done and over with already... *sigh* Do you guys have any advice?

i don't know. i think i'd just finish up with school and get it over with... i found it very difficult to go back to school. so difficult, in fact, that i didn't do it.
but you're a different person than i am... if you know you'll be motivated to go back, maybe you should take the sem. off...

Put your hands into the fire and rough it out.

I agree %110 with Grace! .. Its hard as hell to get back into school once you leave. But hey its also better to chill out and take a break than get yourself into debt. Good luck either way!

You should stay Q, or you'll never finish. Remember hon, you're a flake and a procrastinator (and I mean that in the nicest way possible), leaving school now you'd never get it back.
Considering you're less than a year away, you might as well knuckle down and hit the books.
Lastly, if you did decide to leave, you'd probably end up in SD eventually. You can't pick up your degree work down there because you've taken too many units most schools won't accept you. That means you'll have to either choose to live in LA perm until you decide to go back, or have to move back up here if you want to finish your degree.
Anywho, late

I agree with most everybody above. Take it from somebody who took 11 years to graduate with my undergad degree from 6 different schools, including Northridge by the way. And if you do decide to take a break anyway don't do it more than a semester, but I still actually recommend taking a fluffy easy class that may not even contribute to your degree that fits your schedule that you might even enjoy and rejuvinate your school experience.

if it's just for reason #1, maybe i'd take a break. if it's just because you're burned out, i'd just hurry up and finish. i can understand work being a priority right now, but in the long run, the sooner you get your degree, the more marketable you'll be.

Don't take a break! That is the old familiar line about 2/3 of my friends used and only one has ever gone back. It will be very difficult for you to get into the swing of things once you quit. If you think it sucks now, wait and see what it is like after you haven't done it for a while.
Get your degree now and then you can slack off for a bit before you go after your Masters.

Don't take a break. Even though you're burned out, think about the light at the end of the tunnel. A fun, easy class is a good idea too.
You have the rest of your life to pay back loans. Get your degree, and then pay them once you get out.
Oh yeah, if you stop, you won't go back and if you do, it'll suck being old and hanging out with all the early 20 year olds.
